Creating a local area network (LAN)
Requirements:
- 2 Computers with Windows XP operating system
- 1 Network card for each computer.
- 1 cable network "crossed."
Connect the network cable into both computers, making sure the cable is correct and well connected.
Steps to creating a home network with two computers:
First on "Start" open "Control Panel", double click on "Network Connections", then Right click on "Local Area Connection" and select the "Properties."
Assign an IP address for both computers (the IP address must be different on each computer).
Example: PC1: 192.168.1.1
Assign a subnet mask for each PC, this is 255.255.255.0
2 - Working Group (both computers must remain the same):
Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
Go to the tab "Computer Name", click on "Change", then place the name of our working group. To change the workgroup (both must have the same Network ID.)
Open MS-DOS - Start> Run and type "cmd" (without quotation marks).
In MS-DOS, type the command "ping" and then the IP address of our other computer.
Example: Computer 1: ping 192.168.1.2
Computer 2: ping 192.168.1.1
If you receive a reply, the connection works perfectly. In addition to the data received must be = 4 and Lost = 0
